How Raybil started

A short version of a long few years.

  1. It started with friends

    Raybil began as favors. Contractors we knew were turning down bid invitations because nobody had a free evening to measure drawings, so we connected them with people we trusted to do the takeoffs.

  2. The favors kept coming

    One set of plans became a steady stream. The same problem showed up everywhere: the work that wins jobs was losing to the work that keeps them running.

  3. So we built it properly

    What started as introductions became a process: takeoffs traced in color on the drawings, an itemized bid sheet, and an RFI log listing every assumption, so the contractor could check the numbers instead of trusting them.

  4. All 50 states, and further

    Today we price work for general contractors and trade subs across the United States, and we take projects beyond it. The aim has not changed: keep the people who build things out of the office.

What we believe about estimating

Three things shape how every job leaves our hands.

You should be able to check it

An estimate you cannot verify is a guess with a logo on it. Ours comes with the drawings marked up scope by scope, so a five-minute review tells you whether the numbers hold.

The bid is yours, not ours

We do the measuring and the pricing. You apply your rates and your margin, and you sign what goes out. We never put a number in front of a client under your name without your review.

Overhead should be optional

An estimator on salary costs the same in a slow month as a busy one. Per-project pricing means the cost shows up only when the work does.
